Foundations of Yoga Series

Explore the fundamentals of yoga in a 6-Part series, designed to equip all-levels of yoga practitioners with a foundation to practice safely and confidently, in a welcoming space!

What to Expect:

This series offers basic tools so you can create & refine your personal practice to receive the many benefits yoga provides.

Each week we practice together in the context of sequential exploration of the 8 limbs of Yoga, allowing for inquiry and personal growth. In community we will connect through dialogue, movement, breathwork, and guided meditation.

Each class dives below the surface of the 8 limbs: Yama (ethics), Niyama (self-discipline), Asana (movement), Pranayama (breath), Pratyahara (sensory transcendence), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation), Samadhi (enlightenment).

Weekly sessions will focus on integrating your body and mind through foundational postures & guided meditation, providing a solid base for any asana practice and a deeper connection to yourself and others!

About the Instructor

Ssanyu (aka Sunny) Brooks' intention is to guide students who are seeking a place to be their authentic selves. She prioritized yoga practices in 2016 and became a 200hr certified yoga teacher in 2019, after a transformational yoga retreat.

Ssanyu realized that she wanted to provide a space for freedom of humanity & personal autonomy, when working in the field of healthcare.  Her background in clinical training exposed her to people's wholehearted beliefs, which are multi-faceted and very intricate.  She allows students the opportunity to explore their personal beliefs & needs in a safe space.

She has over 500 hours of various trainings, including Power Yoga, Fitness, Slow Flow Vinyasa, Yin, yoga anatomy, and guided meditation.  Her practice of teaching yoga is based in encouraging the essentials for the practice (breath, body, mind, and spirit).  Her wellness services (yoga asana, meditation, and breathwork) are continually being evolved to be extremely supportive for persons in essential occupations and other marginalized communities.  She strives to be a catalyst for renewal, joy, and movement of energy.
